So…… some bad news here. My left hand is completely useless for at least the next week… ack!!! It all started last Wednesday when a knife, an avocado pit, and a lapse of good judgement all ganged up on me. I cut the middle finger on my left hand pretty badly. But not off, thank goodness! I did sever the nerve, though. My finger was stitched up, and wasn’t too much of an issue (and thankfully I was able to squeeze in a newborn session yesterday). But the nerve had to be repaired quickly. Who wants to go through life with a numb digit? Not me! That’s creepy.
So today I had surgery to repair the nerve. I guess I was pretty naive going into it. I figured “no big whoop”. It will be a local anesthetic, reconnect the nerve thingy, some stitches, and voila! I can get back to shooting on the weekend, I’m tough. Boy, was I waaay off. Found out it would be general anesthetic (for me, that means throwing up for several hours later). Okay, I can still shoot on the weekend. A bit awkward, maybe some swelling, but no need to panic. But as I was “chatting” with the plastic surgeon before the operation this morning, he throws out the word “cast”. What? That wasn’t part of the deal! Clearly, that’s throwing a giant wrench into things. Luckily though (trying to look at the bright side), it’s a half cast (top of my forearm/hand) and as far as I know, it will be gone in a week or so and hopefully I will be able to handle my camera again soon after.
So unfortunately, I’m going to have to reschedule a few sessions. I will be calling those clients tomorrow (Thursday) and we’ll find a new date that’s not too far away. I am so sorry – this has never happened to me before. But, looking at that bright side again, moving some sessions back a bit might mean warmer weather and less brown for those outdoor photos! I love my clients, they’re the best and I certainly want to give them my best work… and I need two hands for that :) Two hands sure would have been convenient for typing out this long post!!
For those of you waiting on your galleries, good news! I am still able to edit, just a bit slower. And looks like my schedule for the next week has just opened up, so lots of time for editing!
Sorry about the headless pic, but I had just woken up from a good sleep after I got home (and had just thrown up, of course). Not exactly looking my best and for those of you who have never met me, I sure didn’t want today’s look to be stored in your memory!
